This is just a quick and easy recipe that I turn to as often as possible. It’s quick, easy, and I always have everything needed in my pantry.
If you’re enjoying salmon tonight, you probably don’t need this warning – but if your new(ish) to salmon please be very careful and watch out for bones! Take small bites and chew thoroughly – not only does this prolong your life, it lets your savour the delicious experience of this perfect salmon!
Broiled Salmon with Garlic Ginger Glaze
Ingredients:
2-4 Salmon Steaks
1 clove crushed garlic (or 1 tsp garlic powder)
approx 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (or 1 tsp powdered ginger)
2/3 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
pinch paprika
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat broiler. Rinse and pat salmon steaks dry. Place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. (You can use parchment paper like me, but it will probably burn. Just a warning haha). Lightly salt and pepper steaks.
Create marinade by mixing all of the blue ingredients together. Play with the amounts and extra ingredients. Sometimes I add 2 tbsp ginger and hoison sauce for a different flavour.
Liberally coat salmon steaks with marinade, saving some for basting. Broil salmon 5 minutes, then baste with more marinade. Use your judgment – I never use all of my marinade, but I am quite generous as well. Place back into oven and broil 4-6 minutes longer, or until salmon is done (the largest area easily flakes).
Watch carefully, sometimes the marinade that drips down will burn, but it’s such a short cooking time I have never had a problem. Again, use your judgment!
I usually enjoy this fish with some Basmati Rice from Bulk Barn. It’s surprisingly cheap and fragrant! I’m a sucker for butter and seasoning salt on Basmati – my mom calls it popcorn rice for a reason. Yum!
