Review: Yanxin’s Reserve ’04 Shu Nuggets by Verdant TeaAuthor: DaisyChubb | Filed under: Review, Tea
Tea time for two!
That’s how it goes around the house – I make tea and make Michael sip it. Lately he’s been enjoying the puerhs from Verdant, and I’ve been raving over them! Each steep is a slightly different experience – a new flavour rears its head or peeks out ever so slightly. It’s an adventure – a delicious adventure!
I had definitely been eyeing up this tea since I saw the note that it tasted like angel food cake. Um, yes please, I would love to taste a tea with naturally occurring CAKE notes! And so I hummed and hawed and it never made its way into my basket – but then I had a swap with a lovely Steepster friend, and lo and behold, it was in my swap box! Truly meant to be.
I chose a few good looking nuggets and got steeping. As usual, I first try a tea from Verdant with the suggested steeping parameters from the website: Yanxin’s Reserve ’04 Shu Nuggets
Short steeps bring out a golden amber liquor with a sweet buttery feeling, and that wonderful angel food taste I was craving! It almost sparkles as you drink it – all I can think of is funfetti and colourful sprinkles, light airy cake with a drizzle of maple syrup or fruity goodness. It’s that good.
The next few steeps bring out a nice deep cinnamon flavour, still a bit buttery and definitely sweet, but with darker earth notes coming in. Nothing is gritty or dirty though – each steep is perfectly smoooooth in texture and taste. I do so prefer this to coffee – don’t get me wrong, I love a good coffee, but no matter how smooth and perfect a nice cold brewed latte is – it’s oh so acidic and leaves me needing medication! Nothing like that with this lovely Shu puerh experience.
I’ve been drinking a lot of Shu lately – I find it settles my stomach and makes me feel happy! Just a lovely treat – I wish I could share it with all of you. I’m hoping to dip my toes (not literally) in some Sheng (raw) puerh soon! Of course I will come back and share my experiences (at the very least) with you, my constant readers and friends!
Have a great week!
